What is a condiment?
The CondiMentors describe a condiment as anything that you can put on a hot dog! (You can get creative with this too) Specifically, this page describes Fermented Relish, Hot Sauce, Ketchup and Mustard; however, there other fermented and non-fermented condiments as well. Examples of fermented condiments can include things like: salsa, some varieties of pickle and mayonnaise. |
What do I need to ferment condiments?
You will first need a recipe to follow! On this page you will find at least one recipe for each of the condiments mentioned. More than likely you will need a Mason jar as well as a warm dark place to keep it in during the fermentation process! |
What are advantages to fermenting condiments?
Traditionally, fermenting condiments was a great way to keep vegetables, fruits and other foods fresh for longer so that nutrients were preserved and less waste occurred! Now that we have refrigerators to store our food we have less of need for this; However, this is still a great way to get creative with your foods and make your hot dogs interesting. |
Where do condiments come from?
Condiments have been created and adapted by many different cultures! Traditionally, Relish was developed in India while Ketchup was created in Ancient Greece. Mustard has origin in the Roman Empire and Hot Sauce is brought to us by Mexico, Central and South America. However, around the globe one can find many different variations of all different condiments! |
